Boko Haram Attacks
I chose and article on Boko Haram attacking Nigeria killing
more than two-dozen people. I was able to locate related articles on this event
from; The Guardian Newspaper in the UK, All Africa Newspaper in Africa, and NY
times in America. Although, this world
news issue was in newspapers in these three different countries, they shared
much of the same information. However based on what countries newspaper you
read depends; on the severity which the newspaper portrayed.
The New York Times quoted, “the 20 to 50 people were killed
in Nigeria by Boko Haram attacks on Tuesday.” (Nossiter, 2015) On the same
topic across the ocean the Guardian Newspaper in the UK stated; “Boko Haram
bombs Maiduguri in north-east Nigeria, killing 20 people.” (Maiduguri,
2015)
In all Africa Newspaper, where Nigeria is located the article seemed to be more
specific, and accurate. This newspaper said, “Suspected Boko Haram gunmen have
killed 37 people in raids on five villages around Maiduguri, the capital of
northeast Nigeria's Borno state, a military source and a local village defense
group said.” ((Doha), 2015) It seem to be more the relevant that the
country is to the topic the more specific, and accurate they were. I believe
because they are viewing from another perspectives.
Since all Africa, is a newspaper in the t country of the
Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria; therefore they are speaking from first-hand
perspectives. First hand perspectives, will tend to be more accurate because
there will be eyewitnesses, experts of that area, people who are connected to
the event or topic. The further the news region was the less information, or
accurate it was. This activity was evidence; news is more accurate when it is
from the current region of the news topic. First-hand information is the best
information that the news can deliver.
