In
chapter ten of; Creativity in the small group process, one topic the
I found helpful and interesting was; Techniques for Encouraging
Creativity. I learned from the text that there are four techniques
that encourage creativity; idea needlers, manipulative verbs,
association and metaphors, and analogy (Harris, Sherblom, 170). Most
people care able to be naturally creative, however there are times
where we need a push. Idea needlers, are questions which help us to
raise the questions that enhance our ability to discover ideas
(Harris, Sherblom, 170). Some of these questions may include; How
much is the result of custom, tradition, or opinion, What if this
were turned inside out? Reversed? Upside down? How about extra
value, How could this be made easier to use? It is questions such as
those listed above that promotes thinking and allows creative
ability to flow. Creativity is important in working in groups,
although in working in more diverse groups, it allows more views and
perceptions for creativity.
I think that when we use manipulative verbs in a positive way, we can get a better idea summed up amongst the group. Because we would be so encouraging, it would allow people to feel more comfortable with forming ideas and piecing ideas together to create a better idea. we use these verbs like adding and conforming to help the group stitch together ideas. when we do this in a positive way, we are able to come up with more extravagant and complex ideas because it would have so many parts from different people's inputs.
