One topic I found helpful in chapter
fifteen was; choosing a communication medium. Effectively
facilitating a group's decision-making, problem-solving, and
communication process involve choosing an appropriate medium for the
communicate task (Harris, Sherblom, 273). Since choosing a medium is
imperative to effective facilitating, there are six steps that helps
choose the communication medium;
- For simple, routine communication, choose a lean medium for efficiency.
- More difficult and non-routine communication.
- Use rich media to develop social presence and personal relationships.
- Use rich media for implementing new plans and strategies.
- Do not let a lack of media richness restrict the information shared or censor discussion of critical issues.
- Evaluate the potential use of a new communication technology within the spectrum of available media choices.
Choosing a medium for the effective use
of CMC; not only influences but challenges the members of the group.
Thus, choosing a medium; enhances the performance of the groups'
decision-making, problem-solving, and communication process.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post about the communication mediums. Choosing a medium is an important thing to decide with for communication tasks. I like how you listed the six steps that helps you choose which communication medium one should go with. They are also useful and help with that decision making process. I liked how you said that, “Choosing a medium for the effective use of CMC; not only influences but challenges the members of the group”. That is very true and I agree with you on that as well as knowing that the medium enhances the performance of the groups’ decision making, problem solving and communication process. You seemed to really know what you were talking about for the medium and rereading about the 6 steps was very helpful for me.
